An Eco-Friendly Burial
by Amber S.

Want to give back to Mother Earth when you are gone? Ramsey Creek Preserve is leading a new movement in eco-friendly burial. This beautiful, 32- acre wildlife preserve, nestled in the forests of Westminster, South Carolina is alive with the bubbling of woodland streams and the twitter of birdsong. Ramsey Creek is a beautiful, quiet, natural alternative to modern cemeteries.
Ramsey Creek Preserve offers healthy eco-safe alternatives you will not find anywhere else. Only biodegradable caskets are allowed, including cardboard box caskets which can be purchased for only $20. Instead of tombstones, graves are marked with large stones found nearby, piles of rocks and pebbles, flowering trees, miniature gardens, and eco-sculptures: handmade sculptures which provide homes to wild animals such as birds and squirrels. And just think: NO plastic flowers!
Think no one will know where your grave is? Guess again. The staff at Ramsey creek keeps detailed maps of the area, outlining each plot and the information for each piece of burial ground so relatives and future descendants will have no trouble finding your resting place. Each customer also gets one page in their online database for the deceased. You can include pictures, your life history, even a last message you would like to leave for future generations. All of your information can be stored and accessed for future use.
Ramsey Creek Preserve does not allow harmful chemicals such as embalming fluids which can be detrimental to the ecosystem. Instead, harmless saline can be substituted, saving both wildlife and groundwater from contamination. An online picture directory of flowers and wildlife can be seen at their website. This natural, unmanicured preserve offers a beautiful, peaceful alternative to toxic city cemeteries and will allow everyone to give back to the Mother as graciously as she has given to us.
