Things I Like
Movies:
Some of my favorite movies are: Where the Heart Is, Sleepy Hollow, Labyrinth, The Stork Club, Hedwig and the Angry Inch,
Amelie, Legend, Death to Smoochy, Little Women, House of 1000 Corpses, Lord of
the Rings, and Harry Potter.
Colors:
Earth colors. My favorite is blue followed by black
then green and brown.
Foods:
Rare fillet mignon, dried strawberries, macaroni and
cheese, pies, homemade bread, split pea and barley soup, seafood, lasagna,
chocolate, and boiled eggs.
Hobbies:
I enjoy a wide variety of activities. I sew, cook and
take care of my house. I love gardening. Reading takes up some of my time at the
end of the day before David and I retire to bed. We like to read for an hour or
so and have calming tea. I love to crochet and knit. I
make lots of blankets and give one to each person I know when they have a baby.
I am also fond of quilting. I have a strange obsession with
goldfish and
teacups. I adore goldfish and can
name every variety. I
have a small but ever-growing collection of antique teacups in my kitchen. When
I find one I cannot live without, I buy it. I enjoy needlepoint and I also hope
to learn spinning soon. I would like to make my own yarn and natural dyes. I
love learning. I am always wanting to learn about something new. I am
also studying bees. On the side, I sometimes like
to create computer graphics. I am also fond of creating pysanky. Once, every few
years, I will create a coloring book.
Books:
(Some of these I read as a child, but I still love
them.) Tale of the Body Thief, The Vampire Armand, Harry
Potter, Susannah Morrow, Little Women, anything by Robin McKinley, Bram Stoker's Dracula, Lord of the Dead, Island of
the Blue Dolphins, Thomas the Rhymer, anything by Juliet Marillier, The Secret Garden, A Little Princess, The Earthsea Chronicles. Historical novels
are my favorite. My all-time favorite is probably
Deerskin by Robin McKinley. I
am very fond of Anne Rice's writing style. I like the description, though it
bothers some people. Tom Holland, who wrote Lord of the Dead also has a
knack for using description beautifully.
The Little Prince by Antoine de Saint-Exupery is
my Bible. I live my life by that book.
Music:
My favorite band to see in concert is
Jackyl. They are awesome in
concert, even if you don't like their kind of music. I like
Type O Negative sometimes and a few songs from a few other bands.
Mostly I just listen to classical and sometimes country when I'm in the car.
Irish music takes up most of that classical list. I also love
The Dresden Dolls,
Fall
Out Boy, Panic! at
the Disco, and Hawaiian music, especially the
traditional chants.
Art:
I love anything by
Evelyn De Morgan,
John William Waterhouse,
Caravaggio,
Jan Vermeer,
Sir Edward
Coley Burne-Jones,
Arthur
Rackham,
Parmigianino
,
Albrecht Durer, and some
Botticelli. Some modern illustrators I
love are
Jane Dyer,
Paul O. Zelinsky, and
Michael Hague.
Online Comics:
Get Fuzzy
9 Chickweed Lane
Megatokyo - gotta start
this one from the beginning
AsIf!
- another running story. Start from the beginning or you won't get it.
Queen of Wands
Something Positive
Sore Thumbs
The Devil's Panties
Websites:
300 Love Letters
Takagism
The Mushroom House
Poets:
I admit, I have a strange fascination with
Lord Byron
who could be considered a poet or a satirical writer. Your choice. I also love
work by
Sarah Teasdale.
Actors:
My all-time favorite actor is Edward Norton. He seems
to be able to play any part with ease. I have never seen anyone who can so
skillfully become the character they are portraying. I also enjoy the acting of Anthony Hopkins and Christopher Walken. Bette Davis
is my favorite actress.
Most Beautiful Men:
I'm still not too old to have a crush. (Hey, who is?)
I don't like the mainstream guys everyone gawks over on TV and in magazines. My
crushes are a bit obscure. Mike has only been in a couple of movies and no one really
knows who he is yet. As soon as he gets a following, I'm sure I will find him
much less attractive. It's much nicer having a crush on someone that no one else
does, right? Anyway, Michael Pitt has been in Hedwig and the Angry Inch
and Murder by Numbers. I saw him in the latter first. Just rented Hedwig last
night. It's a great movie and I would recommend it to anyone old enough to see a
rated R flick. Probably the only reason I find him attractive is because he
looks like a favorite artist of mine who died centuries ago named Parmigianino.
Here's a link to one of Parmigianino's
self-portraits.
I also have a huge crush on
William L. Petersen. Hey! He is NOT too old for me!
Who the heck said that?! Actually, it isn't the actor I like, it's the character
he plays. Gil Grissom rocks my socks! Then there's the embarassing one. Yeah. I
have a crush on Professor Snape *hangs
head in shame*.
Most Beautiful Women:
Ashley Judd
has the most beautiful smile I have ever seen. Audrey Tautou has pretty dark eyes and a clean, fresh complexion. I
loved her in Amelie.
Things I Hate:
George W. Bush (or any political crook for that matter - hehe, watch me get sent
to jail for typing that. Damned evil bastards!)
Rocky Horror Picture Show
Sand - I just can't stand walking on the stuff. If I touch it, my teeth start to
grate together and all my muscles tense up.
Rap Music
Men who take flowers out of the arrangements at the restaurant and give them to
a woman to try and impress her. Leave our damned flowers alone!!
Guys who peel out at stoplights to look cool or honk at you to get your
attention because they think you're hot.
When guys look you up and down like they own you and then wonder why you don't
fall on your knees and beg them to take you home with them.
When guys say the only reason you won't date them is because they are black.
Red roses, stuffed animals, and diamonds.
People who make a right-hand turn from the left-hand lane.
People who use the emergency lane so they don't have to wait in traffic.
People who don't care about the environment or anyone else but themselves.
Parents who put their kids in pageants.
People who let their pets outside without a leash
Barbie Dolls
Pigs - these are the most evil, demonic creatures I have ever seen!
Mercedes Cars
Women who only want money
People who think it is funny to hurt animals
Men who take advantage of women because they are handsome and know they can and vice versa.
Football and baseball
Non-educational children's programming
School as an institution
Bouquets of pesticide-laden flowers
Hypocrites
Scary Christians that threaten me or hate me because I'm not Christian
Martha Stewart
Michael Jackson
Modern Art
50's and 60's decor
Brussels sprouts and lima beans.
Alcohol, cigarettes, and drugs
Roaches, even though I apologize when I kill one
Parents who spank their children
People who think they know what's best for me
Doctors
Lawyers
Political figures who use their power for their own ends (I guess that means
pretty much all of them).
When people stick gum under tables - or anywhere else but the trashcan for that
matter
People who use religion or race as a reason to hate others
When teens write me letters and ask me how to do a certain spell they saw on
"Charmed," "Buffy," or "The Craft."
Toy weapons
Big corporations
Favorite Animals:
Grey
Nurse Shark (Sand Tigers) - They look so vicious, you just have to respect 'em.
Goldfish - I have an obsession with
goldfish. I have owned nearly every type and impulsively buy anything with a
goldfish on it. My favorite are Ryukin.
Bees - I really want to keep my own
some day soon.
Spiders - you
know, I just love that cute little way they scuttle around. They also come in a
variety of beautiful colors. Everyone who comes into my home learns my two
rules. 1 - don't put anything on my antique coffee table, and 2 - the spiders
are more welcome here than you are. You haven't done a thing to take care of the
roach problem so if you kill one, I kill you, got it?
Bats - did you know
that one bat can eat 1200 mosquitoes in only one hour? Talk about pest control.
I would love to have a
bat house that
I can hang in my yard to invite the little critters in. I have a mess of bugs in
the garden and I've heard they do a great job on crops. When we took our
honeymoon in October, I took David to visit a a cave. He had never been and
wasn't at all interested - that is until we got there. He thought the caves were
incredible and so we went to another one on the way home. Now we will visit a
new cave every year for our anniversary. In the second cave, we were lucky to go
with a group of only two other people. The guide showed us two
Eastern Pipistrelles that were sleeping in the cave since we were such a
small group. I have seen very few things as adorable as this little bat.
They were less than ten inches from my face and so cute. They were about the
size of two cotton balls and smaller than a mouse. Their toes were thin as
needles and their adorable ears moved in two directions at once to catch every
sound. They were quite docile and I was able to snap two pictures from only
inches away! If you are afraid of these animals, I highly recommend you
educate
yourself about them before making up your mind.
Rats - Rats have got to
be some of the most intelligent animals I have ever seen. No dog or cat has ever
come close to the brainpower these little guys have. For anyone who wants a
loveable, cuddly little friend, I highly recommend one of these. Again, for anyone
who thinks they are creepy, I highly recommend you
educate
yourself. They are very sweet - not vicious like gerbils or hamsters. If you
are thinking about getting a rat, be sure you have enough time to spend with
them. They are highly social and need lots of love, attention, and playtime.
Butterflies - even though their larvae
like to munch on my lettuce
Unicorns
